I haven’t really been following the diet to a tee but only the breakfast part, I’m doing the boot camp part of the diet and I’ve been eating my Activia yogurts and a banana for breakfast because eggs make me sick as well as meat in the morning and I just substitute with those. Well, I do 30 min of cardio on the elliptical, I don’t overwork myself or anything. My weight didn’t come down when I was exervicing but I haven’t exercised for 4 days and I’ve dropped 5 lbs. Is the exercise affecting weight loss or am I in ketosis and it’s starting to do its magic? I’d like to continue exercise if it won’t interfere.

Exercise will not slow weight loss, on any diet. It boosts your metabolism and keeps it from slowing down when your diet changes- so it’s very good to do. The 5 lb. weight loss is likely from ketosis, but I must warn you. I tried lowe carb dieting- and after about a month of feeling awful all the time, I discovered it wasn’t worth it. What will work in the long term is doing like you are doing- but do not be afraid to have whole grains, because fiber is important. A diet full of salads, whole grains, fruits, veggies, and lean meat will pave the way to long term weight loss- and your body will feel better for it.

Im on day 2 and im just wondering about how long itll take to start seeing results, I am also on a diet so i think thatll help a little. I know that results arent gonna happen overnight.

P90X is an awesome program You will notice results in strength in week 2 and then see the visible result of weight loss and muscel tome in week 3 or 4 for sure.

Every 30 days be sure to take progress photos and measurements.

The meal planner that comes with the program is fantastic! You will for sure be getting enough calories and the right foods to get you the maximum results. Or if you are a beachbody club member use the online meal planner. you can create your own meal plan and it will even print you a shopping list!
either meal plan is great but P90X plan will really take your nutrition and results to the next level!

I do a cycle of winter weight gain and spring weight loss and toning. It has been harder for me in the past two years to get back to six-pack. I’m thinking of reducing carbs drastically after the holidays. Is that going to make me feel sluggish at the gym?

It does take the body a while to not only convert to using fat as it’s primary fuel source but even longer for the body to compete athletically with fat as it’s primary fuel source but it does convert and does have advantages. Low carb marathon runners do not “hit the wall” since there is no mid race fuel change.

I know your question is going to be for how long. I use to be athletic but I didn’t start low carb til I became disabled so have no clue personally. I feel confident in saying that it does convert totally eventually – our bodies were never meant to be fueled by carbs exclusively. Cavemen hunters were fueled by fat.

Glucose is the bodies preferred fuel (if you want to get technical, it actually burns alcohol most efficiently, but that doesn’t make it any healthier for the body than carbs), the body can convert 100% of carbs, 58% of protein & 10% of dietary fat into glucose. The body can also be fueled by fat (dietary fat & fat cells) but only in the absence of carbs. Your brain actually prefers (* reference info) to be fueled by ketones (part of the fat burning process), only the heart requires glucose, but glucose can be easily converted from excess protein if needed or dietary fat.

A low carbohydrate diet is a high fat diet. The protein should only be a little higher than adequate. You do not want to waste protein as a fuel source, you will leave none for cellular needs. Although it is completely possible to live on a fat/protein only diet for long term (as proven by research done in a hospital setting) it becomes boring fairly quickly. Luckily many vegetables & some fruits, nuts & seeds are low in carbs and greatly expand the diet. Most long term low carbers eat as many, if not more non starchy vegetables than vegetarians.

The brain gets its energy from ketone bodies when insufficient glucose is available. After blood glucose is lowered for 3 days, the brain gets 30% of its energy from ketone bodies. After 40 days, this goes up to 70% (during the initial stages the brain does not burn ketones, since they are an important substrate for lipid synthesis in the brain). In time the brain reduces its glucose requirements from 120g to 40g per day.

I agree Mickey! Determination/ will power is what makes a diet a success or an epic fail lol. We can have great diet plans & guidelines that will work if we do them right & to the T!

You definitely need to change your attitude on all the things you mentioned: food, exercise, and just your lifestyle in general. What it comes down to is the willpower you put behind it. Everyone’s tried it at some point and most people just give up. I can sit here and list all the things you need to do, but I’ll probably just be repeating things you’ve heard. Just remember. Only eating healthy or only exercising won’t do the trick. You need to integrate! Good luck!
