Here’s the loose skin story.
When people lose substantial amounts of body fat, the skin may become loose. Whether the skin will tighten after fat loss will depend on many things. However, two predominate.
1. Stretching only – If the skin is loose because it was stretched but not beyond it’s natural elasticity, it will tighten of its own accord over time. That process will happen in a few weeks to months.
2. New skin cells – If the skin was stretched beyond it’s natural elasticity, it will have grown new skin cells in response to the tension. And, when new skin cells have been added, they will not go away when the fat is lost. In that case, the skin may remain loose.
It may help you to appreciate the amount of new skin growth of which the body is capable if you go here –> http://www.foreskinrestore.com/results_1-24months.html and compare the pictures of the before and after pictures of penis foreskin restoration.
Fat distribution also plays a role in the loose skin problem. If the fat loss was predominantly in one area (eg: the waist area), the skin will have stretched more than if the fat loss was more uniformly distributed over the body. People who have lost most of the fat from one area will be more likely to have residual loose skin than those who lost a small amount of fat from a wide area.
In most cases of nominal (not extreme) fat loss, both 1. and 2. may apply. In other words, the skin may tighten somewhat and remain slightly looser. Because elasticity decreases with age, in older people it is more likely the skin will remain loose for a given amount of fat loss. And, of course, the greater the fat loss, the more the skin has been stretched and the less likely it will be to return to the same tightness it had prior to the fat gain.
As a crude rule of thumb, a young person who loses only <30% of their weight will not have loose skin. Those losing 30-60% of their weight will likely have some loose skin. And those who lose>60% will probably have undesirable loose skin.
Loose skin which does not resolve naturally cannot be tightened. It must be removed surgically. There are no wraps, creams, spa treatments, drugs, chemicals, herbals, etc. that can make skin shrink. However, adding muscle to increase body volume can help tighten the skin.
For more about post-fat loss skin, go here –> http://www.livestrong.com/loose-skin-after-weight-loss/ .However, bear in mind that fact that most of those things said in the Mayo Clinic articles refer to very small amounts of amelioration. For example, losing fat slowly will help prevent loose skin but not by much. It is always important to be aware of whether the information you are given is qualitative or quantitative.
You are young and only need to lose 22% of your bodyweight so you should not have a problem with loose skin. However, if you loose much from your boobs, you can expect them to sag slightly more. Breasts are an anatomically unique feature inasmuch as they are covered with skin but the skin is not stretched over muscle or subcutaneous fat. They tend to sag in women with large breasts naturally so any loss of breast fat will result to a corresponding degree of pendulousness.
Good luck and good health!!

Does exercising on a low carb diet like Kimkins affect weight loss results?
Question by Jessica: Does exercising on a low carb diet like Kimkins affect weight loss results?
I haven’t really been following the diet to a tee but only the breakfast part, I’m doing the boot camp part of the diet and I’ve been eating my Activia yogurts and a banana for breakfast because eggs make me sick as well as meat in the morning and I just substitute with those. Well, I do 30 min of cardio on the elliptical, I don’t overwork myself or anything. My weight didn’t come down when I was exervicing but I haven’t exercised for 4 days and I’ve dropped 5 lbs. Is the exercise affecting weight loss or am I in ketosis and it’s starting to do its magic? I’d like to continue exercise if it won’t interfere.

Exercise will not slow weight loss, on any diet. It boosts your metabolism and keeps it from slowing down when your diet changes- so it’s very good to do. The 5 lb. weight loss is likely from ketosis, but I must warn you. I tried lowe carb dieting- and after about a month of feeling awful all the time, I discovered it wasn’t worth it. What will work in the long term is doing like you are doing- but do not be afraid to have whole grains, because fiber is important. A diet full of salads, whole grains, fruits, veggies, and lean meat will pave the way to long term weight loss- and your body will feel better for it.

Just remain on your diet & stop jumping on the scales every day! You body needs time to adjust to the change. The next time you weigh yourself (or later), you will see a weight reduction. BE PATIENT!

How to balance University life with weight loss goals?
Question by 432221: How to balance University life with weight loss goals?
Any advice would be appreciated. I would live to lose weight while in university and not gain a pound, but it’s harder since my workload is so full I feel like any time dedicated to exercising or cooking proper meals (am not living on my own) should be spent on studying. Is it better to just to ditch studying for exercise and eating and cooking healthier? I think I might be on the verge of failing university (First year).
It feels like academic achievement comes at the price of health.

Weight watchers for someone who wants to lose a few pounds?
Question by FunnyGrl: Weight watchers for someone who wants to lose a few pounds?
I’m 5′ 2″ and weigh about 124 pounds. I don’t think I look overweight, but I would like to get back down to around 110 pounds. I’ve been trying to eat well and exercise but it just doesn’t seem to be coming off the way I want it to. I was thinking of joining weight watchers for the summer, but I’m not sure if it’s a bad idea since I don’t want to lose THAT much weight. Has anyone ever joined the program to lose about 10-20 pounds? Is it worth it or can I find the points online without joining?
PS- I’ve done weight watchers in the past by just following my mom’s booklet and it worked very well, but we don’t have the book anymore.
Also, I would just use it as a way to jumpstart my weight loss. In general, I eat very healthy, so I doubt I will gain the weight back once I stop the program.

People join Weight Watchers not just to lose weight but to also learn how to keep a healthy lifestyle so they don’t have problems down the road. Many people join just to lose a few pounds. I highly suggest Weight Watchers. If you follow their plan it is a very healthy way to live.
You might want to join their forum. It’s free. Of course they can’t give you point info but it would give you added support you may need to get you going and to stay on track.
